In line with the university’s “Healthy Campus” policy, which prioritises the well-being of all members of the Thammasat community, Professor Dr. Suphasawad Chardchawarn, the Rector of Thammasat University, has emphasised the importance of promoting good health on campus. As part of this commitment, the university has continued to enhance the quality of campus life. Most recently, the Tha Prachan Campus Administration coordinated with the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, to deploy food safety specialists to inspect canteen vendors at Thammasat University Tha Prachan on 3 July 2025.
All Vendors Pass the SAN Standard – Reinforcing Basic Food Safety
Following a thorough inspection, all food vendors at the Tha Prachan canteen were certified under the SAN standard (Sanitation, Accountability, Network), the latest benchmark for food sanitation developed by the Department of Health. This new standard has replaced the previous “Clean Food Good Taste” certification nationwide and aims to raise the hygiene and safety of food services across the country. Meeting the SAN criteria demonstrates both the vendors’ and the university’s strong commitment to providing high-quality, safe food to students and staff.
Progressing Towards a “Healthy Canteen”
Beyond SAN certification, the Department of Health has also begun assessments for the more advanced Healthy Canteen standard. This next level of certification goes beyond hygiene and safety to include nutritional value and the promotion of healthier eating habits. Key criteria include controlling calorie, sugar, fat, and sodium content in meals, offering healthy menu options, and ensuring the use of safe fruits and vegetables.
During this initial assessment, health officials collected sample menus for nutritional analysis and have scheduled further training for food vendors in August 2025. This educational initiative aims to build awareness and prepare vendors to improve their menus and operations in accordance with Healthy Canteen guidelines. The ultimate goal is for the Tha Prachan canteen to achieve full certification and display the Healthy Canteen signage in the near future.
