The well-being of students, faculty, and staff is one of Thammasat University’s top priorities. In commitment to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Thammasat provides a health-supporting environment and actively shares its comprehensive sports and recreation infrastructure with the local community, local schools, and the general public. Across its Rangsit and Tha Prachan campuses, international-standard facilities accommodate 500 to 20,000+ participants for diverse purposes, ranging from national and international sports competitions to youth sports development, academic seminars, and daily recreational health activities.

Comprehensive Sports & Recreation Infrastructure Across Campuses

Thammasat University operates a broad, multi-campus sports ecosystem designed to promote physical activity, athletic excellence, and community health:

  • Rangsit Campus (Main Sports Hub): Functions as the university’s primary sports and athletics hub with Asian Games-standard indoor and outdoor facilities. Key facilities include the Main Stadium (20,000+ spectator capacity with an 8-lane running track and football field), Gymnasiums 4–7 (supporting badminton, volleyball, table tennis, futsal, sepak takraw, and basketball), the Olympic-sized Aquatic Sport Center (used for swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming, and youth training), TU Sports Tennis facility (multiple hard courts), TU Fitness, Fitness B and C, X-Treme Sport Field, shooting range, and outdoor rock climbing wall.
  • Tha Prachan Campus (City-Center Fitness Hub): Provides a compact, highly accessible sports and fitness offering integrated into the historic city campus. Key facilities include the Tha Prachan Sport Center, featuring a fully equipped Fitness Center (cardio, weight-training, lockers, showers), an indoor Gymnasium, the historic Thammasat Football Field, outdoor sports areas, X-Treme sport field, and badminton and tennis courts.

Inclusive Access Model: Free Facilities for Public, Schools, and Campus Community

To encourage healthy lifestyles and sustainable urban cohabitation, Thammasat University grants the general public, local schools, and external visitors completely free access to major outdoor green spaces and recreational infrastructure:

  • Solar Park: A public park spanning approximately 1 square kilometer, established under an environmental development concept to expand campus green space, promote active healthy outdoor living, and showcase renewable solar energy utilization.
  • Bicycle Track Network: Dedicated bicycle tracks extending more than 14 kilometers around the campus, built under the concept of ‘sustainable cohabitant’ to encourage students, staff, and the general public to use bicycles for daily commuting and physical exercise.
  • Mini Stadium (Sports Zone A): An outdoor multi-purpose sports facility featuring a football, futsal, and rugby field, an 800-meter running track, and outdoor fitness equipment. It serves as a highly popular physical activity venue for local school students and neighborhood residents.
  • PlayZone GYM7 & Outdoor Exercise Courts: Open-air fitness stations, basketball courts, and outdoor futsal courts designated for casual exercise, sports play, and community recreation.
  • Free Campus Community Access: At Rangsit, Fitness B and C are free for TU dormitory students, while the X-Treme Sport Field and Shooting Range offer free access during specified operating hours. Specialized & Affordable Fee-Based Sports Services

In addition to free public facilities, Thammasat provides specialized sports infrastructure under an affordable fee-based structure to support long-term maintenance while maintaining public accessibility. Rates vary by facility and user category:

  • TU Fitness Center (Rangsit & Tha Prachan): Thammasat Students & Staff: Free access supported by the university. General Public & External Users: 100 THB per visit.
  • Aquatic Sport Center (Olympic-Size Swimming Pool): Thammasat Students & Staff: Supported student rate (subsidized access). General Public & External Users: 80 THB per visit / session.
  • Rock Climbing Wall: Thammasat Students: 20 THB per day (includes climbing equipment rental). General Public & External Users: 100 THB per day (or 50–100 THB per round).
  • Badminton Courts (Gymnasiums & Sport Centers): Thammasat Students & Staff: Supported student rate. General Public & External Users: 100 THB per hour per court.
  • Tennis Courts (TU Sports Tennis Facility): Thammasat Students & Staff: Supported student rate. General Public & External Users: 140 THB per court per hour.

Advanced Hygiene, Safety, and Germ Prevention Infrastructure

To ensure the safety and well-being of all university members, local school children, and public users, Thammasat Sports Center places paramount importance on infection control and hygiene standards across all indoor facilities:

  • Air Disinfection Technology: Fitness centers and indoor gymnasiums are equipped with specialized air disinfection machines using Hydroxyl charge technology combined with ultraviolet (UV) radiation capable of eliminating airborne viruses and bacteria.
  • Continuous 24-Hour Air Circulation: Heavy-duty air filtration units operate 24 hours a day to maintain optimal fresh air circulation in all fitness and workout areas.
  • Contactless & Cashless Environment: To minimize surface contact and pathogen transmission, facility fee payments are handled entirely via contactless cashless systems, including QR code scanning and credit/debit card payments.

Public Impact, Youth Sports Development and Sustainable Community Engagement

Thammasat University treats sports and physical activity as an integral component of community health, social development, and lifelong well-being. According to university sports management records, the Rangsit sports complex serves approximately 200,000 annual users. While university students, faculty, and staff represent about 75% of total users, members of the external public and local community account for a substantial 25% of annual participation.

Furthermore, Thammasat’s sports facilities actively host youth athletic development clinics, sports coaching workshops, local school competitions, and elite athlete training programmes. By opening high-caliber athletic infrastructure to surrounding communities and educational institutions, Thammasat University reinforces its mission as a university for the public, fostering inclusive health promotion, physical literacy, and well-being in direct alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.
