Arsomsilp Architect – Puey Ungphakorn Centenary Hall, Thammasat University
On March 9, 2021, Thammasat University by Thammasat University Library, Faculty of Economics, and the Development Science College Puey Ungphakorn have organized the “2021 Puey Ungphakorn Memorial Day” to honour Professor Dr Puey Ungphakorn. The opening ceremony of Thammasat University Archives was at 100-Year Puey Learning Park Building.
The architectures are designed to be visible as green walls and green spaces around the open walls to create a pleasant learning atmosphere. It allows the use of natural daylight for lighting around and within the hallways to reduce the use of electricity. Energy consumption in the building can be reduced by designing water bodies encircling the building to reduce the temperature of the air that flows into the building. Green space on the roof helps absorb rainwater and block out heat, resulting in an evergreen building that can also serve as a place of recreation.
As the Community of Learning Hub, there are multiple entrances accessing to activity spaces for students to socialize and learn to make friendships. Intending to support and nurture a new generation of teachers and academics to believe in social development and continuous learning, the overall design of the project creates a learning community. The educational space promotes interactions and learning exchanges in a variety of styles while encouraging a sense of community. The building also provides different learning environments, from private spaces for reflection, self-study, or small groups to social spaces for learning through interaction to communal space where learning happens through discussion and conversation. The overall space is flexible enough to accommodate different types of learning activities and emphasize the prayer room as an example of critical learning within the organization.
