Thammasat University is reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility by extending its academic and professional expertise far beyond the campus walls. Through both programmed, long-term partnerships and responsive, ad-hoc community activities, the university fosters lifelong learning and enhances quality of life across the provinces.

Empowering Reintegration: Programmed Skills Development in Correctional Facilities

The Institute of Lifelong Education and Human Resources has established significant partnerships to support the development of inmates and staff within Pathum Thani’s correctional system. Throughout 2024, the institute formalised this commitment by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with five regional facilities, including the Central Young Male Correctional Institution.

These agreements provide the framework for programmed support, including vocational training workshops such as “Basic Tea and Coffee Making,” and essential life skills courses, including “Personality Development for Officials.”These initiatives are designed to equip individuals with valuable skills for successful reintegration into society.

Promoting Health Literacy for Senior Citizens

The Faculty of Pharmacy also provides vital community support through more focused, ad hoc outreach. On 9 September 2024, faculty members, staff, and pharmacy students organised a specific project for the Elderly Club at the Suan Prik Thai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.

The session provided crucial information on the proper use of modern and herbal medicines, as well as other health products. This vital outreach aims to enhance health literacy, promote greater awareness of self-care, and ensure that senior citizens have access to reliable health information from university experts.

Intergenerational Exchange: Student-Led Cultural Outreach

The university’s outreach also includes dynamic, ad hoc initiatives led by students. On 7 August 2024, Korean Studies students from Thammasat University volunteered alongside students from Keimyung University, South Korea. This collaborative team visited the Elderly School at the Nong Lan Subdistrict Elderly Training Centre in Kanchanaburi.

This volunteer-led activity saw students organising engaging activities, teaching senior residents Korean traditional games such as Ttakjichigi and Jegichagi, as well as offering introductory Korean language lessons—fostering a unique intergenerational and cultural exchange.

Through these education outreach activities beyond campus, Thammasat University continues to bridge academic knowledge with real-world application. By combining programmed partnerships with ad hoc community initiatives, the university not only advances lifelong learning but also strengthens social inclusion and community well-being. These efforts reflect Thammasat’s enduring mission to serve as a university for the people—empowering individuals and communities across Thailand through accessible, meaningful education.
