Thammasat University Notification
Subject: Designation of Thammasat University as a Non-Smoking Area
Whereas the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the National Alliance for Tobacco Free Thailand, and Thammasat University have reached a cooperative agreement to designate higher education institutions as smoke-free areas; and the Ministry of Public Health Notification regarding the Designation of Types or Names of Public Places, Workplaces, and Vehicles, in Whole or in Part, as Non-Smoking Areas or Smoking Areas within Non-Smoking Areas B.E. 2561 (2018) stipulates that higher education institutions are public places where the health of non-smokers must be protected.
By virtue of Section 39 (1) of the Thammasat University Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the Rector hereby issues the following notification:
1. All areas within Thammasat University are designated as “Non-Smoking Areas”.
2. The Tha Phra Chan Center Administration Division, Rangsit Center Administration Division, Lampang Center Administration Division, and Pattaya Center Administration Division shall arrange for clearly visible signs indicating that Thammasat University is a non-smoking area.
3. The Tha Phra Chan Center Administration Division, Rangsit Center Administration Division, Lampang Center Administration Division, and Pattaya Center Administration Division shall designate smoking areas, taking into consideration proper ventilation and ensuring they do not cause a nuisance to others, and shall clearly display smoking area signs within the premises of Thammasat University.
4. Any person who violates this by smoking in a non-smoking area shall be subject to a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht, in accordance with the Tobacco Products Control Act.
This shall be effective from this day onwards.
